We use the cap-and-band method on most jobs and never reuse old gripper. A patterned carpet (Axminster, Ulster Habitus) will add 15–20% for pattern matching across each step.
Typical 2026 price: £2,400–£4,200 supply & fit. A complete carpet replacement across three bedrooms, lounge, stairs & landing. Almost all of our PE1–PE9 customers who go this route also opt for a coordinated colour palette across upstairs and a slightly heavier grade on stairs. We typically complete a full house in 1–2 working days with two fitters.
Typical 2026 price: £3,400–£5,800 supply & fit. Common across Stamford (PE9), the Hampton developments and the higher-end roads in Werrington and Longthorpe. Two-day install with two fitters. Wool blends (Ulster, Westex) add roughly 30–45% over the figures above, but routinely outlast the cheaper alternatives by 5–10 years.
By far the biggest single variable. Budget polypropylene loops sit at £8–£14/m². Mid-range UK-mill brands (Cormar, Victoria, Cavalier) sit at £18–£28/m². Premium wool blends (Ulster Natural Choice, Westex Westend Velvet) start at £38/m² and climb to £80+/m² for the top Axminster patterns.
The single most under-valued upgrade. A £45–£70 jump from a generic 8mm to a premium 11mm Tredaire or Cloud 9 underlay genuinely doubles the perceived comfort of any carpet, regardless of price. We refuse to quote on a recycled foam underlay — it's a false economy.
Older Peterborough properties — especially Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Park Road, Lincoln Road and the city centre — often have uneven, creaking floorboards. Latex levelling, screwing down loose boards, or fitting hardboard to take out a wave can add £80–£250 to a job. Almost never, in our honest experience. The carpet trade prices most fitters get from UK mills (Cormar, Victoria, Westex, Ulster) are typically 25–40% below the retail prices on consumer sites. By the time you add separate "fit only" call-outs, doorbars, gripper, underlay and disposal, supply-only carpet plus paid fitting usually ends up more expensive than a proper supply & fit quote. The only exception is heavily-discounted clearance carpet from a remnant warehouse — but you take on all the wastage risk yourself.
A single bedroom: 60–90 minutes. A double bedroom: 90–120 minutes. A lounge: 2–3 hours. A 13-step staircase: 2.5–4 hours. A full three-bedroom house: 1–2 days with two fitters. We always confirm an arrival window at the point of booking, and our fitters call ahead 30 minutes before arrival.
Soft furnishings and fragile items: yes, please. Standard furniture (beds, sofas, chests of drawers, wardrobes that aren't fitted): we'll move it as part of the quote. Built-in wardrobes, kitchen islands, bookcases full of books and pianos are different — we'll discuss these at the home visit and either price them in or recommend you get them moved separately.
For 90% of homes in PE1–PE9, an 11mm Tredaire Colours or Cloud 9 Cumulus PU underlay is the sweet spot — soft underfoot, exceptional thermal performance, and BS 5808 fire-rated. For underfloor heating, a thinner 6–8mm thermal-conductive underlay (Tredaire Sensation Heat or similar) is essential; standard PU will drastically reduce heat output. We always specify the right underlay at the home visit.
Fixed. The price we email you after the home visit is the price you pay. The only exception is if the customer asks for an upgrade after the fact (e.g. switching to a heavier carpet or premium underlay), in which case the difference is agreed in writing before fitting day.
